Intergenerational leadership
We will support 500 young people to develop the skills, confidence and opportunities to play a central role in the leadership of Protected Landscapes, helping to increase diversity and representation in National Parks.
We know first-hand that landscape recovery at scale requires bold, inclusive and innovative leadership; better decision-making comes from listening to and learning with young people, members of the public, and those already delivering tangible change in National Parks. Thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Parks Reimagined will bring these people together to reimagine what the future of National Parks could look like, re-envisioning these landscapes into places where people and nature thrive together.

We will support 500 young people to develop the skills, confidence and opportunities to play a central role in the leadership of Protected Landscapes, helping to increase diversity and representation in National Parks.
We will connect 10,000 people from towns, cities and rural communities with each other and with nature. Through shared learning and collaboration, they will help shape a collective vision for thriving National Parks and abundant ecosystems.
We will create a National Parks Network bringing together 1,000 change-makers to share knowledge, raise ambition and demonstrate what’s possible for nature-rich National Parks that work for everyone.
We will grow a more resilient and inclusive movement by expanding digital volunteering, involving more people in our work, and strengthening intergenerational governance. This includes doubling our Council membership to 100 diverse organisations committed to inclusive, nature-rich National Parks.
At the heart of National Parks Reimagined is a simple belief: landscape recovery at scale requires bold, inclusive and imaginative leadership. Better decisions are made when young people, communities and those already driving change are listened to and valued.
Intergenerational exchange is essential. Rather than creating separate spaces for young people, this project supports them to see themselves as leaders — creating real opportunities to lead, and designing spaces where people of all ages can work together on equal terms. By embedding young leaders in the design and delivery of the project, we aim to raise ambition and deliver stronger outcomes for people, nature and National Parks.
Participants from James Broadleys New Perspectives project 'Into the wild'
National Parks Reimagined is building on the success of our New Perspectives project which ran from 2024-2026 with the aim to give young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to influence and connect with decision makers to change the narratives on who National Parks are for and who has a say in their future.
New Perspectives has shown how inclusive, intergenerational leadership can drive change. We’ve learned how to create space for new voices, challenge assumptions, and build momentum for transformation. We now have a unique opportunity to scale this work and embed these new cultures of leadership into the heart of the sector.
National Parks Reimagined will bring together citizens and stakeholders to create, negotiate and build new pathways to the future, informing changes in policy to secure landscape transformation where people and nature can thrive.
By uniting citizens, pursuing social and environmental justice and championing diverse voices, together we can re-imagine and re-write the future of our National Parks.
Intergenerational Leadership
We will support young people under 30 to become confident leaders through a national leadership programme, residential experiences and tailored pathways including mentoring, board roles, advocacy, ambassador schemes and paid placements.
Citizen-led Mandate for Change
We will create a nationwide, multi-generational conversation on the future of National Parks, using citizen juries, workshops, creative media and citizen science to explore challenges, share perspectives and co-create proposals for change.
Network for Transformation
We will build a national network of change-makers to share learning, showcase innovative projects, scale up best practice and connect people across National Parks through events, digital platforms and a growing Young Leaders Collective.
Stronger Movement
We will strengthen the long-term impact of our work by expanding digital volunteering, building inclusive partnerships, improving governance and growing a diverse council of organisations committed to inclusive, nature-rich National Parks for all.
