Campaigners welcome Broads’ in-house planning service
30 March 2007
The Council for National Parks (CNP) (1) has hailed the Broads Authority’s new in-house planning service (2) as a positive move which will help deliver sustainable development and provide a consistent and accessible planning service across the whole of the Broads.
CNP’s Acting Chief Executive Ruth Chambers commented, “A full in-house planning service will provide the Broads Authority with the right tools to protect the Broads and to guide development to the right location, which is essential for current and future generations. The introduction of a fully integrated planning service should enable the Authority to give the Broads a strong voice in the East of England region and ensure that the protection of its special qualities is given proper recognition by other bodies”.
Notes to editors
1. CNP is the national charity which works to protect and enhance the National Parks of England and Wales and areas that merit National Park status and promote understanding and quiet enjoyment of them for the benefit of all.
2. From 2 April 2007 the Authority will be processing its 300+ applications for the first time since it was established in 1989. Since then applications have been processed by the six district councils. Government funding supplemented by Planning Delivery Grant has enabled the changes to be implemented.
