Council for National Parks opens its door in Wales

22 November 1999

The Council for National Parks (CNP) has opened an office in Wales. The charity has long been active in the Principality, but a grant from the Esmee Fairbairn Charitable Trust has made possible the appointment of a new member of staff to Wales. This is a very exciting development for CNP, opening a window of opportunity for it to further extend its aim to protect and enhance our National Parks.

Sylvia Davies, the Campaigns Officer (Wales), will represent the Welsh face of CNP from the new office in Cardiff. In addition to her experience in the Voluntary Sector, Sylvia brings excellent communication skills to the post, as well the ability to communicate fluently in both English and Welsh. One of her key priorities in this respect will be to develop and implement CNP's Welsh Language Policy.

She said: "I am looking forward to developing and strengthening the relationships between CNP and the National Assembly for Wales, National Park Authorities and key partners. I shall be striving to ensure that the National Parks in Wales are well protected with adequate funding for the benefit of current and future generations.
