Join birdman Iolo to celebrate Coast Path's half century

11 June 2003

Iolo Williams, well known television presenter and bird expert, will help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path by leading a walk along one of the most spectacular sections of the path.

All are welcome to join Iolo on the circular walk from St Davids to Porth Clais which takes place on the Friday 4th July. It starts at 1.30 pm from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Visitor Centre at The Grove, St Davids, and has been jointly organised by the National Park Authority and the Council for National Parks.

Iolo Williams is a Vice President and strong supporter of the CNP, the national charity that works to protect and enhance the National Parks of England and Wales and to promote understanding and quiet enjoyment of them.

The path takes walkers along wonderful historic and natural landscapes and stunning, ever changing views. There will be an opportunity to see St Non's, traditionally the birthplace of St David, which is renowned for its magical atmosphere.  Porth Clais itself is a narrow inlet which was a busy trading port in the 16th century and which has a wealth of mythological connections as well as geological interest.

There will be ample opportunity to meet and to hear from Iolo, who has been doing a great deal of walking around Wales for various television programmes this year.

Iolo said that he was delighted to be leading the event.  "As Vice President of CNP I really do believe that it we have a lot to celebrate in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Coast Path offers access to a tremendous wealth of landscape, wildlife and culture which is important on an international level as well as to Wales. I am determined to play my part in ensuring that the Parks are protected and that their value is understood and they are accessible to everyone."

Iolo worked for RSPB before making his name as television presenter in Welsh and in English He was the subject of the series 'Birdman' and is currently fronting a television series, Crwydro, on S4C which is a walking chat show with well known Welsh personalities.
