Liz Wall (CNP) presents the 2011 Park Protector Award to Traditional Boundaries,

Park Protector Award

CNP's Park Protector Award recognises, rewards and celebrates an exceptional project or individual that has made a lasting contribution to the protection, restoration or conservation of the glorious National Parks of England and Wales.

2011 award winner

“It is fantastic to get this award and reinforces our commitment to continuing to look for opportunities to support rural communities and the local economy in and around Northumberland National Park.” Derek Proudlock, Northumberland National Park.

The judges of CNP's Park Protector Award chose Northumberland National Park’s outstanding project, Traditional Boundaries, Traditional Skills project to win its 2011 prestigious award and £2000 bursary.

The project stood out amongst an excellent shortlist because it skilfully combined conservation with job creation, restoring the fragile landscape and creating a legacy of employable traditional skills in the rural north east. The 5 year project was a tremendous success, with 80% of trainees now in employment.  The award bursary will be used to enable young people to sample traditional skills at a key stage in their education.

The award was sponsored by HF Holidays who is also a corporate Park Protector.

Members of CNP’s Park Protector Club play an essential role in our Park Protector Award. These Park Protectors, together with experts in the National Park world, judge the nomination shortlist, cast their vote and are invited to attend the award ceremony and see the winning project on the ground. Becoming a Park Protector is an excellent way for both corporates and individuals to support our National Parks, and CNP will work with corporate members to ensure they get the most out of their membership.
