Tarmac
Tarmac is a world leader in the provision of building materials and solutions for the construction industry. Our products and services play an important role in many aspects of our everyday lives, including the roads, bridges and railways that transport us, the buildings we live and work in, and our hospitals and colleges.
We help to create the fabric of modern life, and we strive to do so in a way that is sustainable, forward-thinking and provides the highest standards of quality to our customers and to society.
We aim to be a leader in innovation – not only in the development of our materials and solutions, but also in the way we interact with the many communities in which we work. We are committed to behaving proactively and responsibly to enhance our role as an industry leader in environmental performance.
Tarmac is committed to operating in a responsible manner by understanding and controlling our environmental impacts at both local and global levels. Our aim is one of continuous improvement and we have developed measurable targets for Environmental Management Systems, energy, waste, biodiversity and water use.
We are very aware of our interactions with species and habitats at our different locations. We believe we have a responsibility to protect the natural biodiversity found in these varied environments, and the implementation of Biodiversity Action Plans at all our 120 active UK quarries, five of which fall within the boundaries of National Parks, is central to this aim which we are proud to say we achieved in 2008 – a first for the quarrying industry.
