Our successes
As well as being instrumental in the creation of the National Park movement, the Campaign for National Parks has been responsible for a number of major successes, which have been achieved with the help of many of our partners and supporters.
Significant highlights include:
- The South Downs joining the National Park in 2010 and the New Forest in 2005
- Withdrawal of damaging road-building plans in the Peak District National Park
- Renewal of a special fund to underground electricity lines in National Parks
- ‘Mosaic’, a groundbreaking programme to engage ethnic minority communities in National Parks
- Intrusive quarrying in the North York Moors National Park refused in a test case that set the tone for future Government policy
- National Park Authorities set up as independent authorities following a successful Parliamentary campaign
