The South Downs is the newest member of the National Park family

Review of the Year

Over the last twelve months CNP has campaigned tirelessly on a range of complex issues facing the Parks.

We have monitored and responded to 68 proposals, consultations and planning applications and have successfully influenced major decisions so that their outcome has had a positive impact on Britain’s most stunning landscapes.

Our efforts played a major role in the decision to confirm the South Downs as a National Park and we celebrated the news that plans to build a controversial road through the Peak District had been withdrawn. We made great strides in recruiting more Friends to help to fund our work and maintained a constructive dialogue with members of the Corporate Forum for National Parks.

Our President Ben Fogle was also extremely active. He led a celebratory walk in the South Downs and appeared alongside Sir Chris Bonington at the RGS to talk about his favourite adventure, at the same time raising considerable funds for CNP.
