CNP appoints its first Welsh Affairs adviser

The Campaign for National Parks has recently appointed Dr Norma Barry as its first Head of Welsh Affairs. In making the appointment, Anne Robinson, Chair of the Campaign’s Board of Trustees commented:
“The Campaign for National Parks is keen to build stronger relationships with our key stakeholders in Wales and, following a rigorous open selection competition, is delighted to have appointed Norma Barry to the position.
She added: “The three National Parks in Wales all face a number of economic, environmental and social challenges. We will be looking to our Head of Welsh Affairs to work closely with the Park Authorities and others to help to ensure, in line with CNP’s mission, that the outstandingly beautiful Welsh National Parks are protected and promoted for the benefit and quiet enjoyment of all.
“Norma has a wealth of public sector experience. She has worked in a wide variety of areas, including economic, rural and environmental policy. She is keen to use her extensive skills and experience to support CNP’s members in addressing issues in a way which safeguards the beauty and tranquillity of Welsh National Parks.”
Norma Barry said: “I am looking forward to representing CNP in Wales and using my experience from central government and communication skills to further the campaign’s work in Wales.
“Partnership working and collaboration will be key to maintaining the unique, diverse and spectacular features of our Welsh National Parks, and ensuring that existing and future generations can continue to enjoy their beauty and peacefulness.
She added: “The Parks provide a sanctuary from the stresses of modern day living, whilst making a valuable economic contribution to local communities. It is important that the Campaign ensures that decision makers take full account of the wider contribution Parks make to the economy of Wales, the health of the nation, education of our young people and mitigating the effects of climate change”.
Note to Editors:
The Campaign for National Parks is the only national charity that campaigns and speaks out to protect and promote National Parks. It is an umbrella organisation of nearly 40 environmental groups and amenity groups across England and Wales. CNP aims to give the voluntary sector a shared vision and voice on all National Park issues.
