Say NO to Horncroft sand quarry

The site of the proposed Horncroft sand quarry

The good news...
the South Downs is now a National Park

The bad news...
there are already proposals to dig it up

CNP was shocked to discover that there are proposals for a new sand quarry near Fittleworth and Bury in the heart of the South Downs National Park. This special place is enjoyed by walkers and cyclists for its wild heath and woodland and a new quarry would have devastating consequences for this much loved area.

If approved the new quarry would see 1.5 million tonnes of sand extracted from the site over a 20 year period. In addition to the noisy equipment required, the quarry would result in a new access road and frequent lorry journeys to and from the site.

The quarry would damage the landscape, wildlife and public enjoyment of the area and would not pass the strict test that the Government has set for quarrying in National Parks, which is why CNP, along with many local people, strongly objects to this proposal.

We have objected to West Sussex Council, the body responsible for making the decision but it is not too late for you to help. You can help us in our campaign by writing to the Council raising your objections to the proposal.
