Campaigns

For 70 years CNP has campaigned to protect and enhance the National Parks in England and Wales.  Our knowledge base and links with a variety of organisations means that CNP is quick to respond to potential threats to National Parks as well as to promote the benefits of National Parks to society.

CNP mainly campaigns in the areas of planning, transport, energy, minerals and military training.  We do this by:

  • responding to consultations
  • contributing to public inquiries
  • lobbying decision-makers in Westminster, Whitehall and the National Assembly for Wales
  • regularly researching and publishing briefings and reports

For a relatively small organisation, CNP enjoys a great deal of respect, not only within government, but with National Park organisations around England and Wales.  Our professional and well-targeted campaigns have meant that CNP has enjoyed much success throughout its history.

Examples of our successes include giving evidence in the Dibden Bay inquiry against a proposed container port on Southampton Water which was turned down, and our involvement in the campaign for a New Forest National Park, which was designated in 2005.
