National Parks
There are currently twelve members of the National Parks family in England and Wales. They are the Broads, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Lake District, New Forest, Northumberland, North York Moors, Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire Coast and Snowdonia.
The Parks cover about 10% of total land area of England and Wales: 8% of England and 20% of Wales. They attract around 100 million visitors a year.
The South Downs is being considered for National Park designation and a Designation Order has been made, which is waiting for confirmation by the Government. See the South Downs page for further information.
