Statutory Bodies

England

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
Defra has responsibility for National Parks.

Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG)
DCLG has responsibility for community cohesion, equality, housing, urban regeneration, planning and local government.

Department for Transport (DfT)
DfT oversees the delivery of a reliable, safe and secure transport system that responds efficiently to the needs of individuals and business whilst safeguarding our environment

Natural England
Natural England brings together English Nature, the Countryside Agency and the Rural Development Service.  Natural England is here to conserve and enhance the natural environment, for its intrinsic value, the well-being and enjoyment of people and the economic prosperity that it brings.

Wales

Welsh Assembly Government

Countryside Council for Wales (CCW)
CCW advises the Government, the National Assembly for Wales, Local Authorities and others on sustaining the natural beauty, wildlife and the opportunity for outdoor enjoyment.  CCW is the national wildlife conservation authority.

CNP is a member of several other organisations with an interest in National Parks:

Wildlife and Countryside Link (WCL)
A liaison body for voluntary sector organisations concerned with the conservation and protection of wildlife and countryside.  It has 36 members and around 8.4 million supporters

Wales Environment Link (WEL)
WEL unites a diverse range of voluntary environmental and countryside organisations in their efforts to work for a better quality environment for Wales.

Heritage Link
Set up in 2002 to give heritage organisations in England a collective voice.  It aims to influence policy, underpin advocacy and build capacity in the non-government sector.

Campaign for Better Transport
The independent national body concerned with sustainable transport.  It looks for answers to transport problems and aims to reduce the environmental and social impact of transport.
